Nursing Community Coalition Sends Letter to New Administration's Transition Team

The Nursing Community coalition welcomes the opportunity to serve as a resource to the new Administration and help ensure Americans receive high-quality, cost-effective care. Please see the letter signed by 60 national nursing organizations to the Honorable Mike Pence, Vice President-elect and Chair of the Presidential transition team. This letter outlines the coalition’s core principles, advocacy initiatives, and priorities for a reformed system.

Nursing Community to Host Reception for Representative Lois Capps

On December 7, 2016, the Nursing Community hosted a reception to honor Representative Lois Capps, RN (D-CA) and to present her with the Lois Capps Scholarship Award, a scholarship fund totaling $10,000 to support nurses who will attend the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI).

Two Nursing Bills Pass the House

November 14, 2016

The U.S. House of Representatives passed two nursing-related supported bills that aim to bolster the nursing workforce and improve the health of the nation—the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 2713) and the Improving Access to Maternity Care Act (H.R. 1209). The passage of this legislation marks a longstanding commitment from champions in the House, namely Representative Lois Capps, RN (D-CA) and Representative David Joyce (R-OH), who introduced H.R. 2713, as well as Representatives Michael Burgess (R-NC), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Capps, who introduced H.R. 1209.

Nursing Community Reiterates FY 2017 Funding Requests

The Nursing Community sent a letter to House and Senate Chairs and Ranking Members of the Appropriations Committees and Labor, Health and Human Services Subcommittees reiterating the need for a strong investment in the Nursing Workforce Development programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research within the National Institutes of Health.

NC Applauds House Energy and Commerce Committee's Vote

September 21, 2016

The Nursing Community applauds the House Energy and Commerce Committee for passing a series of public health bills by voice vote, including approving the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 2713) and the Improving Access to Maternity Care Act (H.R. 1209). This is a major legislative step for nursing policy at the national level. Read Representative Capps' Statement here.

NC Applauds Congressional Champions for Support of National Nurses Week

The NC also sent a letter to Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and the 30 original co-sponsors who introduced House Resolution 724 - Supporting the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week on May 6, 2016, through May 12, 2016. Read the letter here.

The NC sent a letter to Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), thanking them for introducing Senate Resolution 467 - A resolution supporting the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week, to be observed from May 6 through May 12, 2016. Read the letter here.

The NC submitted testimony to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS-ED), respectfully requesting $244 million for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Nursing Workforce Development programs (authorized under Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act [42 U.S.C. 296 et seq.]) and $157 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), in Fiscal Year 2017.
