Nursing Community Coalition Releases Statement on House Passage of HR 959
The Nursing Community Coalition released a statement commending the unanimous passage of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act in the House of Representatives via a voice vote under suspension of the rules. The statement thanks Representative David Joyce (R-OH), as well as original cosponsors Representatives Doris Matsui (D-CA), Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), and Kathy Castor (D-FL) for their unwavering commitment to the nursing profession.

Nursing Community Sends Letters on Title VIII
Fifty-one organizations signed on to a letter sent by the Nursing Community Coalition to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee (and its Subcommittee on Health) and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee urging them to make the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2017 (HR 959 and S 1109, respectively) a priority during the second session of the 115th Congress.

Nursing Community Submits Testimony
Members of the Nursing Community submitted testimony for the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies that outlines the coalition's funding requests for FY 2018. The NC requests $244 million for the Nursing Workforce Development Programs (Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act) and $160 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research, one of the 27 Institutes and Centers within NIH.

Nursing Community Thanks Senators for Title VIII Reauthorization
On May 11, 2017, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2017 (S. 1109) along with cosponsors Senators Richard Burr (R-NC), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Susan Collins (R-ME). Fifty-seven organizations signed on to a letter in support of this bill.
